Day Three of Draws!

This was the third day of blood draws for H945. Lado and Rachael dropped in to draw and Lado attempted a "wall-of-fame" draw... Simone has rather small veins that are not too deep in her one "good" arm. Watch along in today's blood draws and think about what things you want to emualate and what you might have done differently. Eventually, we should all have had a chance to draw each other, so it's not too early to start planning!

A Visit to Students at Clinicals, February 12, 2010

Today, Simone and I went around to clinics in Burien, White Center and Renton to check in on Amanda, Kunthy and Ja'Lissa. Everything seems to be going well for everyone! Feedback has been positive and we got a sense for how useful lab skills and waived testing can be in a clinical setting, where a larger skill set increases marketability!

New Students Pair Up with Old Students for Blood Draws

It was like old times, only better! We may have had more "old" students than "new" in the lab today and everyone was very enthusiastic about working on drawing blood. Some of us even learned to type our blood! O-negative blood may be the least interesting to type (sorry Stephanie!), because O-negative blood doesn't react (clump/clot) with the agents used, so there is no obvious change on the slide.
Simone has scheduled John for a capillary (finger-stick) draw and blood typing for Friday! ....can't wait!
Huy made an attempt to reach the hall of fame by drawing Simone, but missed... He'll have to try another day, but I think there's a line forming....

Computer Lab

In the Computer Lab today, we visited out blog, checked out some of the links, familiarized ourselves with the CD-ROM that came with our textbooks and worked on keyboarding and ten-key skills.

H945 FIRST DAY of DRAWS!!!

Simone gave the class a lesson in typing blood. (Be sure to try the blood typing game by clicking the link farther down the page!) We also had a visit from Lado and Huy, two of the phlebotomy students already heading out to clinicals. They shared some of their experiences and expertise with the H945 students, who were working on their very first blood draws.
