Here are some assorted stills from the lab today. We had visitors to the lab and students from other programs working on plaster casts out in the hallway.
Enjoy!

Today we had students visiting from Highline Community College and Renton High School.
Here are some photos.
It's a wrap! (Anatomy of a cast)
Lola volunteered to have her arm in a cast today as the MA and Surge Tech Students practiced their skills wrapping casts.
It starts with a sleeve, which is cut to fit, followed by padding and then the plaster, which wraps on like an ACE bandage and is smoothed over with wet gloves/hands to finish it off. The casts take a while to cure and Lola's remained green for quite a while.
Soon, her friends were signing her cast and, later that afternoon, the Surge Tech Students removed it.
Here are some visuals...

Another day in the lab! You could definitely see signs of phlebotomists owning their draws today! Watch as Jessica slips up and then... self corrects! Takes a lot of presence of mind to do that while you're going through an actual draw with the camera running! Others also had to deal with the stress of being filmed. Remember though, dealing with distractions like cameras and activity all around you in the lab will help make you stronger phlebs when you hit clinicals in a few more weeks! I meant to remind everyone that we are now 40% of the way through the lab and theory part of the program! Can you believe it? It's true!
Here are today's draws.
ZOMG FOBT (GUAIAC)!!!!
ZOMG may be Internet slang, but FOBT (AKA GUAIAC) is not! Those of you who were brave enough to go home and bring in your "don't ask, don't tell" samples, now know first-hand what FOBT (Fecal Occult Blood Testing) is all about. There's nothing occult about it! Occult in this case means hidden, as in "invisible." Here are a few stills from today's lab activities.
