DNR/DNAR

A friend of a friend.... The other day I was telling the class that some people, in addition to having a living will, go one step further and a tattoo DNR/DNAR (Do Not Resuscitate/Do Not Attempt Resuscitation) on their chest, just to drive the point home. One of the students in the Spring 2012 class has a friend who did just that following a quadruple bypass operation. Here is the image. Very sobering. However, as a phlebotomist, we would still call a "code" (alert the doctor or nurse) that someone was failing ("crashing" or "coding") if their heart stopped beating while we were in their room to draw them.
